What published sources report

SourceWhat it reports
Cars.com (quotes gathered February 2026)Cheapest sampled option for a Toyota Camry: $127.33 per month. The same type of plan for a Mercedes-Benz GLB: $173.10 per month.
Insurify (2026)Average of about $90 per month. One sampled mid-tier plan was about $99 per month over 30 months.
AutoGuidePlans can start as low as $25 per month. Cost depends on age, condition, make, model and mileage.
ConsumerAffairs and Cars.com annual rangesRoughly $900 to $2,500 per year, depending on the site and the sample.

The gaps between those numbers come from different sample vehicles, coverage levels and deductibles. Treat any average as a rough guide.

What moves the price

  • Vehicle make, model, age and mileage. Luxury and high-mileage vehicles cost more to cover.
  • The coverage level, from powertrain-only to near bumper-to-bumper.
  • The deductible and whether it applies per visit or per repair.
  • The term and the state you live in.
  • Paying in full or monthly. Some sellers discount an upfront payment.

Names that appear on "cheapest" lists

Insurify and Automoblog each published a 2026 cheapest list. Endurance, Olive and Autopom! appear on both, and Automoblog also lists Toco and CarShield. A low price can come with a higher deductible, a shorter coverage list or a longer waiting period, so compare like with like. We do not endorse any of these companies.

Real-cost math

  1. Add the down payment, every payment and all fees over the whole term.
  2. Add the deductible you would pay on a likely claim.
  3. Check limits per repair and per term.
  4. Check what you must do to keep coverage, such as scheduled maintenance records.
  5. Check the cancellation refund rules.
