How to turn this into a shortlist

  1. Pick three names that fit your vehicle’s age, mileage and state.
  2. Ask each for a quote on the same vehicle, mileage, term and deductible.
  3. Ask each for the sample contract and the administrator’s name.
  4. Read the exclusions and the claims steps before the price.
  5. Check the company’s record with your state attorney general and the Better Business Bureau.

Why the labels differ

Each outlet scores companies on its own mix of price, coverage, eligibility, claims and customer reviews, then adjusts the weights for each award. ConsumerAffairs says it analyzed reviews from August 2025 to July 2026 and quotes on four sample vehicles. Cars.com says it earns commissions from partner links. A label tells you how one outlet weighed things, not how a plan will treat your vehicle.
